**Grand Junction, CO – **On August 1, 2026, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were conducting a follow-up investigation in the 500 block of 25 ½ Road of Paradise Valley Mobile Home Park when an adult male barricaded himself inside a mobile home and refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
During the course of the investigation, the male sent another individual a photo of himself with a firearm and a photo of a fire he ignited on top of a stove. The male also threatened to set the home on fire and made threats to shoot at law enforcement.
Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams were activated and responded to the scene. The Grand Junction Fire Department was staged nearby to address any possible medical or fire suppression needs, and nearby residents were evacuated out of precaution.
As SWAT operators worked to gain compliance, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Samuel Hinkson, exited the home and was safely taken into custody. There were no injuries.
Hinkson was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charges:
Attempted First Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (9 counts)
Menacing – Real/Simulated Weapon
4th Degree Arson
Harassment – Repeat Telephone Calls
Obstruction of a Peace Officer
Resisting Arrest
Failure/Refusal to Leave Premises/Property Upon Request of a Peace Officer
Prohibited Use of a Weapon
Domestic Violence
Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender
