Durango, CO: **The city of Durango and its partners, La Plata County and the Durango Fire Protection District, will be moving down from Stage 2 fire restrictions beginning at 12:01 a.m. on July 24.
Stage 1 fire restrictions will remain in effect throughout La Plata County. Stage 1 fire restrictions are the standard operating procedure within Durango city limits per city ordinance that allows no open burning in city limits except small campfires on private property.
Recent rainfall has improved conditions in parts of the region, allowing restrictions to ease from Stage 2. However, rainfall has been uneven, with some areas receiving significantly less moisture than others. Wildfire risk remains, and we must continue to use caution.
In addition, the National and Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control Preparedness Levels remain at Level 5, the highest level. This reflects ongoing wildfire activity, weather conditions, fuel conditions, and the availability of firefighting resources across the country.
The city enacted Stage 2 requirements on June 26 through an emergency order signed by the city manager.
If you're traveling to National Forests, BLM lands, Tribal lands, or other jurisdictions, be sure to check the fire restrictions before heading out.
