Durango, CO: **Residents can purchase used laptop computers, monitors, and desktop computers from the city under a new surplus sale program by the Information Technology Department.
The surplus sale supports the city’s strategic plan by promoting responsible stewardship of resources through reuse, recycling, and reinvestment in essential technology. The sale strengthens community engagement by providing residents with affordable access to devices that support digital inclusion.
“By offering our used equipment directly to the community, we’re extending the life of valuable technology while supporting the city’s commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management,” said IT Director Justin Carlton.
Residents can bid on various used electronics on govdeals.com for 7 days. All computers are between three and five years old and have a 256-gigabyte to 512-gigabyte hard drive. The IT department is putting up 6 items to start, but more will be added soon.
To keep sales local, the city will not be shipping purchased items. Residents who purchase items through govdeals.com will be asked to bring proof of purchase to the Service Center, located at 105 Sawyer Dr., to pick up their purchase.
Anything that doesn’t sell will be recycled. Proceeds from the sale will go directly back into the IT equipment fund.
