The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a fatal crash on Lookout Lane where five people died after their vehicle drove off a cliff on August 9, 2026.

Grand Junction, CO – On August 9, 2026, at approximately 7:45 a.m., first responders responded to a possible crash in the 2000 block of Lookout Lane.

911 dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center received a report of a possible vehicle that drove over the edge of a cliff. The Grand Junction Police Department and Grand Junction Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered a crashed vehicle on the side of the hillside.

Initial investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Lookout Lane when it veered off the roadway and down the steep incline of the hillside. Five individuals were found deceased, suspected to have died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Personnel with the Grand Junction Fire Department, Mesa County Search and Rescue, Grand Junction Police Department, and Mesa County Coroner’s Office worked to recover the deceased individuals from the crash site. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will release the identities of the deceased once appropriate notifications have been made.

The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating this crash, and speed is being looked at as a factor in this crash. There is no additional information available at this time.
