**Grand Junction, CO – **On August 5, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Grand Junction Police Department received multiple calls of a large group of juveniles riding non-street-legal mini electric motorcycles on the roadway that failed to stop for the red light at N 12th Street and Elm Avenue, nearly causing a crash. Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to the area but were initially unable to locate the group.
Thanks to community members calling in to report the group, officers were able locate the group at the Rood Avenue parking garage downtown. After several members of the group attempted to flee from the officers, officers on scene were able to take all involved individuals into custody.
During the entire incident, several juveniles ignored traffic signals and attempted to elude officers at a high rate of speed, and one rider attempted to ride their illegal motorcycle down a stairwell in the parking garage. This behavior is dangerous, puts everyone at risk, and could result in serious injury or fatal crashes. Mini e-motorcycles and off-road motorcycles are illegal on public roadways and should only be operated on private property within the city limits. Parents, familiarize yourselves with the municipal and state laws regarding electric vehicles. This behavior will not be tolerated, and juveniles and parents could face criminal charges.
Two adult males were charged in this incident. 22-year-old Cody Nation was arrested and released on a summons for Reckless Driving and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (11counts).
23-year-old Kevin Espinoza was arrested and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
Second Degree Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (11 counts)

This incident also resulted in the arrest of 11 juveniles (ages 11-16) for Reckless Driving, before being released to a parent or guardian.
