GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — At approximately 5:00 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at Reynolds Polymer, 607 Hollingsworth St.
The reporting party advised dispatch that the fire was in a compressor room and that they had attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher.
Engine 3 was the first company to arrive and initiated a fire attack with a 1¾-inch hose line, reporting that the building's automatic sprinkler system had activated and was helping contain the fire. Engine 6 arrived shortly afterward and was assigned to support the building's automatic sprinkler system by establishing a water supply to the fire protection system in the affected area.
Additional firefighters conducted a search of the building to determine whether the fire had extended beyond the compressor room. Truck 1 accessed the roof to check for fire extension into the roof.
Firefighters brought the fire under control by approximately 5:15 a.m. Crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots, verify that the fire had not spread beyond the point of origin, and assist with overhaul operations.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The Grand Junction Fire Department urges residents to exercise extreme caution during the current period of hot, dry, and windy weather. These conditions can significantly increase fire danger and allow even small fires to spread rapidly.
Residents are encouraged to:
Properly extinguish smoking materials and dispose of them safely.
Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
Use caution when operating equipment that may produce sparks.
Secure trailer chains to prevent them from dragging on roadways and creating sparks.
