Durango, CO: **Orange Cone Weekly Update: Paving on the Animas River Trail between 29th Street and the Rio Vista Spur is now complete, but the section will remain closed until seeding and planting work has finished.

Construction projects and events that will impact traffic the week of August 24: Rotary Park Alley Reconstruction

  • Construction will begin Monday, August 24, and is expected to last four weeks.

  • Work will include pavement reconstruction, drainage improvements, curb ramp improvements, and small sidewalk replacement.

  • Intermittent alley closures and temporary parking and access restrictions should be expected.

**Roosa Safety and Connectivity Project **
Project Summary:
The project includes approximately 1,300 feet of new sidewalk on the east side of Roosa Avenue and 9th Street to the Riverbridge Apartments; intersection improvements at Avenida Del Sol and El Paso Street; protected bike lanes; ADA ramp upgrades; transit stop improvements; asphalt milling and overlay; and updated pavement markings to reconfigure traffic flow. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

  • Lane width limitations and possible closures will be in effect along Roosa Avenue between 9th Street and El Paso Street.

  • Avenida Del Sol will be closed for underground utility work with a detour in place.

  • Traffic lanes have been shifted along Roosa Avenue between 9th Street and Avenida Del Sol.

  • The transit stop near Manna Soup Kitchen remains open.

  • Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions on Roosa Avenue during working hours.

Animas River Trail Phase 1 (see below for map)

  • Paving has been completed from 29th Street to the Rio Vista Spur. Seeding and planting along this section has begun.

  • Demon Bridge will remain open during this portion of the construction.

  • Trail users should follow the detour signs.

  • This phase is expected to continue for 2-3 months.

Wilson Gulch Drive (see below for map)
Project Summary:
New utility infrastructure will be extended to the current Spur Line Trailhead, and the existing gravel road will be replaced with a new two-lane paved roadway featuring a raised median. Once complete, the new pavement will extend past the trailhead and connect to Prospector Avenue (East). This work precedes the construction of the upcoming Three Springs Elementary School for the Durango School District. Construction is anticipated to last through November.

  • Starting at the roundabout at Confluence Avenue, Wilson Gulch Drive is closed for major road and utility upgrades.

  • Public trail access will remain available through the project. Parking will be permitted along the south side of Prospector Avenue.

US Highway 160 at Elmore's Corner (Colorado Department of Transportation CDOT project)
Project Summary:
Work will include resurfacing the highway, striping, new delineators, guardrail, and road sign replacement. The Durango High Bridge will undergo deck repairs and new resurfacing. New ramps, compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, will be installed on US Highway 160 at Dominguez Drive, River Road, Three Springs Boulevard, and Colorado Highway 172/County Road 234 (Elmore’s Corner).

  • The Grandview Interchange exit and entrance ramps will experience staggered nighttime closures through September 4 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • Paving and milling operations will continue between Three Springs and Highway 3.

  • Paving and milling in this area are expected to take three weeks.

  • Most work will occur at night, but motorists may experience daytime delays and congestion due to lane closures and traffic shifts that will remain in place 24/7.

  • Motorists can expect daytime delays in both directions to continue throughout the summer as milling and paving operations progress towards Walmart.
