About

The Alpine/Little Cimarron Trailhead provides access to the Little Cimarron Trail in the Uncompahgre National Forest, located approximately 3 miles south of Montrose on County Road 864. This moderate hike follows the Little Cimarron River along a gentle grade, with the trail ending at an intersection with the Fall Creek Trail. The area lies within the Uncompahgre Wilderness, where standard Wilderness Regulations apply. The trailhead is accessible year-round for day use, though the primary hiking season extends from September through November. Facilities include vault toilets, but potable water is not available. The site is pet-friendly and allows parking for vehicles. Note that the Gold Mountain Fire closure is currently in effect; verify status before visiting.
