Barr Lake State Park, located in Brighton, Colorado, is a 2,715-acre state park centered around a large reservoir. It offers hiking opportunities primarily via an 8.8-mile multi-use trail that circles the lake. The terrain is generally level, making it accessible for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a daily vehicle pass costing $10 to $15. Leashed dogs and horses are permitted on the trails. Fall is a suitable time for hiking, particularly for birdwatching, as the park hosts over 371 bird species, including wintering bald eagles. However, hikers should be aware that a five-year dam rehabilitation project is impacting trail access. Sections of the Lake Loop trail are closed on weekdays due to construction, reopening on weekends. Additionally, boat ramps are closed for the season due to low reservoir levels, though hand-launched vessels like kayaks remain usable. Parking is available at the park entrance.
