About
Bear Lake Campground is a moderate-difficulty, first-come-first-served camping site located 11 miles from Yampa, Colorado, off Forest Service Road 900. Situated in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest at an elevation of roughly 9,769 to 10,480 feet, the campground is accessible from May or early June through September. The site contains 43 campsites, including three double-sites and one triple-site, accommodating both tents and RVs up to 30 feet in length. Amenities include potable water, vault toilets, trash services, picnic tables, fire grates, and a boat ramp. While the campground itself is wooded with mixed conifer and aspen stands, the lake with its fishing pier and day-use area is a short walk away. Nearby trailheads for Mandall, Smith Lake, and Stillwater trails are accessible via Forest Service Road 900. The access road is unpaved and described as washboard, requiring approximately 45 minutes to travel from Yampa. Dogs must remain on leashes, and no reservations are accepted.
