About
Bright Star Campground is a privately operated, 20-acre site located in the Great Sage Plain, approximately 5 miles southeast of Cortez, Colorado. Situated in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park, the campground serves as a base for visitors to the Four Corners region. The approach involves a gravel and rock road, which reviewers describe as manageable for most vehicles, though motorcyclists should note the terrain. The site offers panoramic views of the La Plata Mountains to the east and Ute Mountain to the west. Amenities include a communal kitchen stocked with supplies, ice, hot showers, pit toilets, and a shaded pavilion with games. Accommodations range from RV pads with electric hookups and tent sites to furnished tipis, cabins, and a yurt. The campground is cannabis-friendly, with use restricted to individual sites. It is open from April through October, and reservations are required.
