Burro Bridge Campground

Burro Bridge Campground sits two miles northeast of Dunton on West Dolores Road (Forest Road 535) in the San Juan National Forest. Located at 9,089 feet, the site features 14 campsites on a sloping hillside above the West Dolores River. The area offers shade trees and easy access to the Lizard Head Wilderness, though the river itself is not directly accessible from the campsites. Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire grates. Water is available from late September through October but is absent from May through September and during the extended summer season. Trash service is not provided, requiring visitors to pack it out. The campground is first-come, first-served with no reservations allowed. Access involves driving on gravel roads; the final stretch is steep and narrow, making it unsuitable for trailers. High-clearance vehicles are advisable. The site is pet-friendly and allows horses. Fees range from $0 to $23 per night.
