About
Caddy Whompus is a sport climbing route located on Project Wall in Rifle Mountain Park, Rifle, Colorado. The route is 70 feet long and features limestone from the Leadville Formation. It is classified as difficult, with a style described as powerful and cryptic. The climb begins on a vertical face before entering an overhang section characterized by tension climbing between small holds. A key feature is a right kneebar used for recovery before the crux. The route ends with a blue finicky headwall leading to chains. Protection consists of bolts, and quickdraws are occasionally left hanging on the route. Caddy Whompus is situated approximately 15 feet to the right of the SLM route and about 20 feet left of Waka Flocka. It is considered one of the less-tried routes on Project Wall. The area offers parking and is pet friendly. Climbing in Rifle Mountain Park generally peaks from May through September, though the area is accessible year-round. Day passes cost $10.
