About
Capuccino is a sport climbing area within Rifle Mountain Park, located near Rifle on Colorado's Western Slope. The site sits at an elevation of 5,667 feet and features difficult routes suited for experienced climbers. Parking is available on-site, and pets are permitted. A typical visit lasts about five hours. The climbing consists of high-quality limestone routes with bolted protection. Two primary routes are identified: Capuccino and Cappuccino Corner. Both were first ascended by Alan Nelson and Richard Wright. Capuccino is a 125-foot, two-pitch sport route located on the right side of the Wasteland. It begins with a boulder problem and moves into a corner. Cappuccino Corner is a longer 120-foot single pitch, also on the right side of the Wasteland. It features neat holds and stemming sections. The upper corner of Cappuccino Corner is rated 10c in the Krol guidebook. Climbers can use a 70-meter rope, though an 80-meter rope provides more slack for lowering. The area has anchors with closed coldshuts, and extra draws are recommended.
