Chris Park Group Campground is a large, flat camping area in the San Juan National Forest, located 18 miles north of Durango near Haviland Lake. The site sits at an elevation of 7,880 feet and operates from May through September. It features three distinct group campsites accessible via Forest Road 166. Two of these sites accommodate up to 75 campers each, while the third site holds up to 150 people and includes a pavilion with electricity, grills, and RV access. The terrain is mostly open and flat, shaded by scattered ponderosa pines. Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets, picnic tables, campfire rings, trash pickup, and electrical hookups. Recreational features on-site include a volleyball court and horseshoe pits. The campground is pet-friendly with dogs required to be leashed. Nearby activities include hiking, canoeing, and fishing at Haviland Lake, which is less than two miles away.
