The Coke Ovens Trail is a short, 0.4-mile out-and-back hike located in Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction. The trail descends gradually from the canyon rim along switchbacks to an overlook featuring massive, rounded beehive-shaped pillars of Wingate Sandstone. These formations, which give the site its name, result from the erosion of wind-borne sand dunes over millions of years. The trail is classified as moderate with minimal elevation change and is suitable for year-round use. Parking is available at the Upper Monument Canyon trailhead on Rim Rock Drive.
