About

Compression Shorts is a 15-foot boulder located in the Electric Hills Bouldering area near Montrose, Colorado. Situated at 5,850 feet elevation, the route is classified as moderate difficulty and is suitable for year-round climbing from January through December. The boulder sits within the Drainage sector of Electric Hills, which is accessible by vehicle with parking available nearby. The route requires two crash pads for protection. The climb begins with a side-dynamic start (SDS). Climbers place their left hand on an undercling while keeping the right hand up on a sloper. The sequence involves moving the right hand to another sloper and then to a sidepull, followed by a jump to the left to grab a large jug. From there, climbers hike their feet high and pull over the lip onto a slabby face, using a series of crimps to reach the top. The first ascent was completed by Zack Morris. Montrose serves as a hub for rock climbing on the Western Slope. While Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park offers extensive multi-pitch traditional climbing, Electric Hills provides a more accessible bouldering option close to town. The area features sandstone cliffs with incut holds, offering a distinct texture from the granite walls found in nearby Black Canyon. Climbers of all skill levels can utilize this spot, with the moderate rating making it a practical choice for local training or casual visits.
