The Coyote Hill Loop is a 3.4-mile moderate trail located 6.5 miles north of Pagosa Springs on Piedra Road. The trailhead sits on the east side of the road, just past the cattle guard where pavement ends. It is a low-elevation loop, typically ranging from 7,769 to 8,071 feet, with a gain of approximately 300 feet. The route winds through open meadows, thick oakbrush hillsides, and widely spaced Ponderosa pines. Hikers and mountain bikers can access the loop from the junction at 0.17 miles from the main trailhead, traveling clockwise or counterclockwise. The area offers views of Pagosa Peak and the San Juan Mountains. Facilities include a large parking lot suitable for horse trailers and restrooms at the trailhead. Pets are allowed. The trail is suitable for fall hiking, though wildflowers are primarily a spring and summer feature. In winter, the Pagosa Nordic Club grooms about 5 miles of trails for cross-country skiing.
