Dethklok

Dethklok is a rock climbing destination located on Grand Mesa in Western Colorado, situated at an elevation of 8,984 feet. The site is characterized by steep, featured basalt walls formed from large volcanic flow events that deposited layers up to 70 feet thick. These thick basalt layers create high-quality rock suitable for climbing, contrasting with the more common fractured basalt found elsewhere on the mesa. The primary route at Dethklok is a 15.24-meter trad climb graded 5.10, requiring a high level of skill and physical fitness. Climbers typically spend approximately 4 hours on the outing. Parking is available at the base of the climb, and the area is pet-friendly, allowing dogs on site. Access is straightforward from Grand Junction via I-70 to Exit 49, then south on CO Highway 65, or via US Highway 50 past Whitewater to Kannah Creek Road. The site is accessible year-round, though winter conditions may affect route accessibility.
