This rock climbing area is located on Grand Mesa, a high-elevation plateau in Western Colorado with an elevation of 8,143 feet. The site offers difficult routes suitable for experienced climbers seeking challenging ascents. Parking is available near the base, and the area permits pets. The climbing season extends year-round from January to December, though winter conditions may require additional preparation and equipment. Climbers typically spend around 4 hours on the ascent. The geology of Grand Mesa consists of a basalt cap formed by lava flows approximately 10 million years ago, which protects the underlying sedimentary rock. The basalt is highly fractured, with occasional thick volcanic flow events creating steep walls with good rock quality. Climbers are advised to use removable hardware and temporary anchors to prevent resource damage, as fixed anchors are not consistently maintained. The area is part of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests, where climbing access is open to the public. Loose rock can be present on routes.
