Duncan Trailhead in Montrose, Colorado, serves as the access point for the Duncan and Bighorn trails within the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness. Located at an elevation of 6,148 feet, this moderate difficulty trailhead is suitable for fall hiking from September through November. The primary Duncan Trail descends steeply and ruggedly toward the Gunnison River, covering approximately 1,549 feet of singletrack. It is not suitable for horses, whereas the connecting Bighorn Trail allows them. Hikers typically spend about two hours on the route, which is generally dry during these months. The trailhead provides a self-serve fee station, with day use costing $3 per person for those entering and exiting on the same day. Amenities include a shade structure, picnic table, vault toilet, and an informational kiosk. Parking is available, and dogs are welcome on leashes.
