Jumbo Ridge

Jumbo Ridge is a 2.2-mile hiking trail in Paonia, Colorado, located on public lands within the Jumbo Mountain Special Recreation Management Area. The trail begins at the Grassy Knoll, where it connects with the Ridge of Doom, Big Man Climb, and Slant-N-Dicular trails. It traverses the west face of Jumbo Mountain, offering views of Paonia and the North Fork Valley. The route features minor exposure, loose rocks, and steep sections near the beginning, followed by a long descent. Hikers pass viewpoints including the Toilet Bowl and The Hammock before descending through upper trees to an open ridgeline. The trailhead is accessible via Pan American Avenue, with parking available at the end of the road and additional space at Apple Valley Park. Restrooms are located near the lower parking area. The trail is open year-round, though seasonal wildlife closures may affect access between December 1st and mid-July to protect elk, mule deer, and golden eagles. Dogs are allowed off-leash.
