About
Lake Fork Campground is a moderate difficulty camping site located 27 miles west of Gunnison, Colorado, on the shore of Blue Mesa Reservoir within the Curecanti National Recreation Area. Situated at an elevation of 7,579 feet near the reservoir's dam, the campground offers 90 campsites on a bluff overlooking the water. The site is accessible via CO Highway 92 and serves as a hub for boating, fishing, and hiking. Most sites accommodate RVs, though tent camping is available at specific walk-in sites (046 to 050). Amenities include flush toilets, drinking water, a fish cleaning station, and boat ramps. Cell service is limited, making reservations recommended during the peak season from May through September. The surrounding landscape features semi-arid shrubland, sagebrush, and riparian habitats with Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and aspen trees. Visitors can spot Gunnison's Prairie Dogs and black-billed magpies in the area.
