The Lewis Lake and Mine trail in Telluride is a difficult 1.9-mile one-way route to an elevation of 12,673 feet. The path follows an old mining road through meadows with wildflowers and steady grades before gaining elevation toward the historic Lewis Mill. The mill is a preserved five-story structure housing original milling equipment, located just before the trail meets Bridal Veil Creek. Beyond the mine, the route continues to Lewis Lake in a glacial basin. The trail is accessible year-round with parking available at the trailhead near the east end of Colorado Avenue. Hikers typically complete the route in about one hour, though individual pace and seasonal conditions affect duration.
