The Ajax Peak Trail is a strenuous, high-elevation hike in Telluride, Colorado, leading to a summit of approximately 12,748 feet. The route is characterized by a steep climb and significant exposure, often involving Class 3 rocky sections. The standard approach begins at the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls, following the Bridal Veil Road or trail up to the power plant area. From there, hikers ascend the rough Black Bear Pass Road (4WD recommended, though walking is possible) before branching onto the Ajax Peak Trail, which features numerous singletrack switchbacks. The trail offers expansive views of the Telluride box canyon, surrounding high peaks, and the Savage Creek and Ingram Basins. Fall foliage is a notable seasonal feature. The hike is considered difficult due to the steep grade and potential for loose rock. Parking is available at the trailhead, though space may be limited if driving the full road. The trail is accessible year-round, but winter conditions require snow and ice preparation.
