Mee Canyon Trailhead provides access to a large sandstone alcove in the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, located near Fruita on Colorado’s Western Slope. The trail is generally rated moderate to difficult, covering approximately 6 miles out-and-back or forming an 8.7-kilometer loop, with an elevation gain of roughly 1,371 feet. The hike typically takes between two and four hours to complete. The primary feature is a massive alcove described as approximately 200 feet wide, 300 feet deep, and 80 feet high. Access requires driving on dirt roads; the Upper Road is typically open from mid-April to mid-August, while the Lower Road is open from mid-August to mid-February. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the final approach. Parking is available at the trailhead, but there is no water or restroom facilities. Pets are permitted. The area is known for steep red rock canyon walls and solitude compared to nearby Colorado National Monument.
