The Mesa Verde Visitor and Research Center in Mancos, Colorado, serves as the primary entry point for hiking within Mesa Verde National Park. Located just off Highway 160, ten miles east of Cortez and nine miles west of Mancos, the center sits at an elevation of 6,961 feet. It offers moderate difficulty trails suitable for a typical duration of about two hours. The facility is open year-round, operating daily from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, with closures on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. The center provides parking and is pet-friendly. While the park itself remains open all year, some areas like Wetherill Mesa and specific visitor services close during winter months. Several trails, including the Museum Loop, Mesa Top Loop, and Cliff Palace Loop, remain accessible year-round subject to weather conditions. An entrance pass is required for park access.
