About

Morrow Point Reservoir is a deep, 12-mile-long body of water located in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, near Gunnison, Colorado. It is primarily a hike-in fishing destination known for trophy-class trout and kokanee salmon. Access is limited to the Pine Creek Trailhead, located on US Highway 50 at mile marker 131. Anglers must hike approximately 0.75 miles each way with a 600-foot elevation change, including over 230 stairs, to reach the dock. The hike is moderately strenuous and requires carrying gear. Motorized boats are restricted to those operated by Elk Creek Marina, the exclusive concessionaire, which offers pontoon boat trips. Bank fishing is also possible via the trail. The reservoir supports populations of brown trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, brook trout, kokanee salmon, and occasional cutthroat trout. Water depths reach approximately 146 feet. The fishing season runs from April through October. Parking is available at the trailhead. Pets are permitted.
