About

Otto's Ridge is a desert ridge soaring site located near Mack, Colorado, on the Western Slope. It is considered one of the state's most consistent flying sites, particularly suitable for new P2 pilots seeking airtime. The ridge is notably longer than similar formations like the South side of Point of the Mountain in Salt Lake City. Flying typically occurs from dawn to late morning. The site offers moderate difficulty with a typical flight duration of approximately two hours. Elevation sits at 5,047 feet. Access is available from March through November, subject to weather conditions. Parking is provided near the launch area, and the site is pet-friendly. Driving directions from Grand Junction involve taking I-70 west to exit 11 (Mack), turning right, crossing the railway, turning left on Old Hwy 50 until reaching the 2.8 road, turning right, then left across a steep hill at the gas pump station, followed by the first right.
