Ouray Ice Park

The Ouray Ice Park is a human-made ice climbing facility located in the Uncompahgre Gorge, just outside the town of Ouray in the San Juan Mountains. While primarily known for ice climbing, the site features a Perimeter Trail that serves as a moderate fall hiking option. The trail covers approximately 3.8 miles with an elevation gain of 1,020 feet and typically takes about two hours to complete. Hikers follow the trail along the Uncompahgre River, viewing the gorge walls and a pond at the loop's turnaround point. The terrain is well-traveled and clearly marked but includes elevation changes, making it accessible for most but not a flat, paved walk. Parking is available, and pets are permitted. The site operates from September through November, with specific access hours for the public. The park is free to enter, though it is managed by a nonprofit organization in partnership with the City of Ouray.
