Piney Creek is a moderate hiking trail located in Montrose, Colorado, near Olathe. The route spans 2.24 miles with an elevation of approximately 5,809 feet and typically takes about one hour to complete. The trailhead sits off Dry Creek Road, marked by a carsonite sign and gate at the start of the Tabeguache Trail. Hikers begin by descending through open meadows and pinyon juniper stands. A short, steep climb occurs midway before the trail flattens at an intersection with the Red Wall Trail. From this junction, Piney Creek continues north, shifting from a downhill character to more rolling terrain. The surface is ground, and the trail allows hiking, biking, dogs on leashes, horses, and motorcycles. Parking is available at the trailhead. The area is managed by the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office, and conditions vary with weather throughout the year.
