About

The Pollock Bench Trailhead in Fruita, Colorado, provides moderate hiking access to high desert terrain and deep canyons within the McInnis Canyon National Conservation Area. Located at an elevation of 4,486 feet, the trailhead serves as a starting point for various routes, including the 7.2-mile Pollock Bench Loop and connections to Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness. The landscape features unique rock formations, colorful cliffs, and expansive views of the Fruita area and Book Cliffs. The typical hike duration is about 2 hours, though longer loops are available. The trail consists of singletrack and dirt paths with a steady ascent followed by a gradual descent along the canyon rim. Hikers encounter short steep sections and limited shade, making sun protection advisable. There are no water sources along the trail, so carrying sufficient water is necessary. Parking is available at the trailhead, and pets are permitted. The area supports both hiking and horseback riding. Fall is a recommended season for visiting, with comfortable temperatures and visible foliage from September through November. The site contains paleontological and cultural sites, including rock art, which hikers can observe without touching. There is no use fee for day visits.
