The Rattlesnake Trail is a hiking route in Gunnison, Colorado, located within the Rocky Mountains near Hartman Rocks. The trail spans approximately 1.2 to 1.25 miles with an elevation range between 8,123 and 8,294 feet. While some sources classify the difficulty as easy due to gentle terrain and clear markings, others label it difficult, citing rough sections with loose gravel and rocks. The surface is primarily dirt or ground, which can be muddy after rain. Hikers typically complete the trail in about one hour. The route is open year-round, though winter conditions may require extra gear. Parking is available at the trailhead, although it can be limited, with additional space further past the start. The trail allows hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and motorized vehicles including dirtbikes. It is managed by the BLM Gunnison Field Office. The trail offers views of the canyon and eastern plains, with some sections providing sightlines toward the Continental Divide. It is partly shaded and passes historic remnants, including the site of the Crags hotel, which burned in 1913. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked.
