About
Cranor Hill Ski Area is a small, community-owned ski and snowboard area located on County Road 10 just northeast of Gunnison, Colorado. Owned by the City of Gunnison since 1966, it serves as the town's primary winter recreation spot. The facility sits at an elevation of approximately 7,860 to 8,000 feet and covers 45 acres with a vertical drop of 305 feet. The terrain consists of four groomed runs and a small terrain park, served by a single Poma Platter surface lift. The area relies entirely on natural snowfall, with no snowmaking operations, meaning opening depends on accumulating roughly 16 inches of snow. Consequently, the season typically runs from January through March, though it may open in November or close early depending on conditions. Some seasons, the hill may not open at all if snowfall is insufficient. Operating hours are generally Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. A small lodge at the base offers concessions, and parking is available. The difficulty is described as moderate, suitable for beginners and intermediate riders.
