Rocky Road is a 1.3-mile difficult hiking trail located in the Horse Gulch Trail System just east of Durango. The route connects Horse Gulch Road to Hyper Extended Ridge and Extended Ridge, offering a quick, strenuous outing within the city limits. The terrain consists of well-defined singletrack that is steep and rocky in sections. The trail leads to a summit ridge with views of Durango and the surrounding mountains. Parking is available at the Horse Gulch Trailhead, located behind the Mercy Medicine parking lot on East 3rd Street. Hikers should expect heat in the summer and bring plenty of water. The trail is accessible year-round and is used for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running.
