About
Sid Vicious is a sport climbing route located in Rifle Mountain Park, a major rock climbing destination near Rifle, Colorado. The route is an 80-foot (24 m) sport climb featuring 11 bolts with clip-and-lower anchors. It is characterized by fun climbing and a unique crux, with a long move at mid-height and reachy, balancy final bolts. The route was first ascended by Dan Morta and William Mondragon in 2005. The climbing area is situated at an elevation of 7,085 feet within the park, which offers parking and allows pets. Rifle Mountain Park is known for limestone sport climbing on the Leadville formation, featuring large, flat holds, pockets, crimps, and pinches. The area is accessible year-round, though it is fairly crowded on weekends from May through September. The city of Rifle allows new routes on a permit system, and the bolts for Sid Vicious were provided by the Rifle Climbers Coalition.
