The Slate River is a small mountain creek located just north of Crested Butte, Colorado, along CO-734 (Slate River Road). It offers easy fishing access at an elevation of 8,900 feet. The river is known for clear water and classic pocket water habitat. Anglers can find brown, rainbow, and brook trout in the stream. The fishing difficulty is rated as easy, making it suitable for wade fishing and solitude. Access is straightforward, with parking available near the river and roads that are generally open from April through October. Winter travel can be difficult due to weather conditions. The location is less than 10 miles from Crested Butte and Mount Crested Butte. Pets are allowed on the river.
