Sylvan Lake State Park in Eagle, Colorado, offers moderate fall hiking on 7.8 miles of trails surrounding a 42-acre lake within the White River National Forest. The area sits at an elevation of 8,548 feet and is accessible via Brush Creek Road off US Highway 6. Hikers can expect aspen groves and mountain scenery, with the best foliage typically occurring from September through November. The Sylvan Lake Trail is a 1.4-mile loop generally considered easy, taking about 29 minutes to complete, though broader park trails may require up to two hours. Dogs are permitted on leashes in developed areas, and some routes allow off-leash dogs. Parking is available near the day use area. Visitors should note there is no cell or internet service in the park. Due to drought conditions, campground water spigots, showers, and flush toilets are currently shut off, though limited potable water is available at the Visitor Center. Fire restrictions prohibit open fires in developed areas. The park charges a daily vehicle pass between $10 and $15.
