About
The Roubideau Trail Section is a 22.1-mile mountain biking route on the Uncompahgre Plateau near Montrose, Colorado. It connects to the larger Tabeguache Trail system and follows an old cattle drive road. The terrain is rugged backcountry, combining two-track roads, ATV trails, and singletrack. Riders face technical challenges, including steep climbs and descents, with notable difficulty when crossing Criswell, Monitor, and Potter Canyons. Route-finding can be complex due to intersecting old roads and logging ways. The trail crosses 15 drainages and passes through aspen groves, sage fields, and riparian areas. Wildlife includes turkey, deer, elk, black bear, and mountain lion. Water is available but requires filtering. The trail is open from April through October, with parking available at the trailhead. Pets are permitted. The elevation reaches 9,611 feet. The ride typically takes about 7 hours. The western terminus is at 25 Mesa Road, with the final two miles on singletrack to bypass private land.
