About

The Edge Loop is a 29.1-mile mountain biking route in Fruita, Colorado, rated as difficult. The trail begins at the 18 Road Bookcliffs Recreation Area and climbs into the Book Cliffs, reaching a maximum elevation of 7,315 feet. Riders traverse singletrack, fire roads, and dirt routes with a total elevation gain of approximately 3,566 feet. A defining feature is a two-pitch rappel down a slickrock waterfall in Lipan Canyon, located roughly two-thirds into the loop. Riders can hike around this section if preferred. The route offers 360-degree views of the Grand Valley basin, red rock canyons, and distant snow-capped Rockies. The trail is accessible from April through October. Spring conditions may include snow in upper sections while lower trails remain dry. The North Fruita desert can be hot from late spring into late fall, requiring adequate water and food. Parking is available at the trailhead, and pets are permitted.
