About

The Fingers is a 12.2-mile mountain biking trail near Montrose, Colorado, located on the Western Slope. The route follows the cliff bands above the Dry Creek drainage along a series of mesas composed mostly of slab rock and loose rock on a dirt surface. The trail is classified as difficult, though some sources describe sections as moderate singletrack. It winds downhill and then back uphill, circling the "fingers" of Cushman Mesa. Riders can traverse the trail in either direction, but south to north is preferred. The route begins off the Tabeguache Trail at a well-marked start on Cushman Mesa Road. About three-quarters of the way through, after climbing out of a rocky wash, there is a junction with Cushman Mesa Road. The best trail continues past this point, featuring a speedy descent and technical climb that circles back to the road. The trail is multi-use, allowing motorcycles and horses. Parking is available at the trailhead. Pets are permitted. The typical season for riding is April through October, with an estimated duration of approximately four hours.
