The Scottish Castle is a rock climbing area on Grand Mesa in Western Colorado, located at an elevation of 10,075 feet. The site features moderate difficulty routes that require attention to technique and physical endurance. Parking is available near the climbing area, and pets are permitted. The site is accessible year-round, though winter conditions may require additional preparation and gear. Grand Mesa was created by lava flows approximately 10 million years ago, resulting in a basalt cap that protects the underlying sedimentary rocks. The climbing area is situated on this volcanic rock, which is described as highly fractured with occasional large flow events creating steep walls. Climbers should be aware of loose rock and unreliable fixed anchors, as Colorado Parks and Wildlife does not maintain all route features. The area is accessed from Grand Junction via I-70 to Highway 65 or US Highway 50 past Whitewater. The climbing types available include trad, sport, and top roping.
