About
Transfer Campground sits 11 miles north of Mancos in the San Juan National Forest at an elevation near 8,500 feet. The site features 12 first-come, first-served family campsites and one reservable group site within a mostly level aspen grove. Most sites accommodate RVs, though parking spaces are small. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water, with fire rings provided at individual sites. The group site offers double picnic tables, cooking grills, and a serving table. Horses are excluded from the main campground but can stay in adjacent corrals on Forest Road 561. The facility is open from May through September, with an extended first-come, first-served season in late summer and early fall when water service is suspended. Nearby trailheads provide access to the Big Al Interpretive Trail, Rim Trail, Box Canyon Trail, and Aspen Loop Trail for hiking, mountain biking, and ATV riding. The historic town of Mancos lies to the south.
