Advertising on The Slope

Run your ad when the river is up. Not when it is not.

Google can guess at the weather. Neither it nor Facebook knows the Gunnison is running 1,340, that Black Bear opened this morning, or that there is a foot of new snow at the pass. We publish all three, so you can spend against them.

Prepaid wallet, 100 dollar minimum. No contract, no monthly retainer.

Spend on the days that are actually good for you

Every outfitter out here has paid for clicks in a week when the water was too low to run and nobody was going to book anything. The problem is not the targeting, it is that the platforms have no idea what the river is doing.

River flow

Gauge readings on the runs people actually float.

Snow and forecast

New snow, temperature, and what is coming.

Roads and passes

Closures as they happen, from the state feed.

Trail conditions

Reported and verified before anything runs on them.

A rule you write is checked against the same feeds the site publishes. If a reader can see it on the weather page, you can spend against it. When a feed cannot be read your campaign keeps running, because an ad that quietly never serves is the worst way to spend a budget.

What it costs

Published, the same for everybody, and bought by the week or the month rather than the year. A rafting outfitter spends in May and not in January, and an annual contract fights that.

Nobody else can sell you this

Conditions-triggered campaign

Runs only when the river, the snow, the road, or the forecast says so.

Who this actually works for

Outfitters and guides

Rafting, fishing, jeep tours, ski lessons. Your season is decided by conditions, so your spend should be too. Run when the water is right and stop when it is not, without touching anything.

Restaurants, shops, and venues

Featured placement in your category and the spotlight on your own town page, next to the events and the forecast people came to read.

Tourism offices

A season across outdoor, weather, and events, with reporting your board can read. Lodging tax money is restricted to promotion, and this is promotion with numbers attached.

Questions, answered

Common questions

Do I need to be a paying business to advertise?
Your listing needs to be claimed, and it is free to claim. Conditions targeting rides a paid business account because it is the one placement that needs the reporting behind it, but everything else on the rate card is open to any claimed listing.
What happens if a feed goes down?
Your campaign keeps running. A rule that cannot be checked counts as satisfied, on purpose: losing a paid week because our scraper broke would be a much worse outcome for you than an ad showing on a day the river was slightly low.
How do I know it ran?
Every rule shows how many times it fired, when it last fired, and what the reading was. There is also a button to check it right now, so you never have to wait to find out a change worked.
Is there a contract?
No. You put money in a wallet, campaigns spend it down, and you stop when you want. Nothing renews by itself and there is no monthly retainer.
How local is the audience really?
Entirely. This is a Western Slope site read by people who live here and people planning a trip here. You are not paying for a Front Range impression that was never going to book anything.
Can you build the campaign for me?
Yes, get in touch. The presets cover most of what people want and take about a minute, but if you would rather describe the season you are trying to hit and have us set it up, that is fine.
