Durango, CO: **Councilors will discuss whether to make trash containers more wildlife-resistant at the Tuesday regular meeting through a combination of increased fines and phasing out older containers.
The resolution is intended to make the city’s trash containers more resistant to bear activity and would:
Increase the fine for trash cans that are over-filled to $50;
Discontinue the purchase of 300-gallon plastic trash containers; and,
Implement a phase-out plan to ensure all trash container lids are metal and wildlife resistant.
Council meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month for a regular meeting at City Hall, 949 E. 2nd Ave. Other items scheduled for Tuesday:

A presentation on the Transportation Department’s annual Ridership Survey done under a partnership with Fort Lewis College’s Sustainability by Design class. The survey helps the city better understand the needs of transit riders and gathers important demographic data.
A presentation on the city’s Flock cameras and how the data for September related to the offense type, organizations seeking access to the data, custom or “hotlist” inquiries, vehicles, and examples of how the cameras helped address local incidents.
An update on the recent rain-caused flooding at the Wilson Gulch roundabout near the Maverik gas station in Three Springs and how the city’s Public Works department is responding to the mud and debris flowing across the road.
Hold a public hearing on the 2027 budget.
