Montrose, CO — City Councilors met for a special meeting on Monday, July 6, to temporarily ban the sale of fireworks in the city limits and formally pass a declaration of local emergency due to the extreme threat of wildfire.
Mayor Michael Badagliacco, J. David Reed, Dave Frank, Ed Ulibarri, and Adam Woodden met in the City Council Chambers at the Elks Civic Building, along with city staff.

RESOLUTION 2026-09
City Councilors voted 3-2 to approve Resolution 2026-09 to temporarily ban the sale of fireworks within the city limits. The city has been working with local fire and emergency services to ban the sale of fireworks due to the extreme wildfire threat in the region.
The city manager has the authority to ban the sale of fireworks for seven days. After that, City Council action is required to extend the ban. The ban will be in place until September 1. The last time the city formally banned the sale of fireworks was in 2018.
EMERGENCY ORDINANCE 2722
City Councilors voted unanimously to approve Emergency Ordinance 2722, on first reading, extending the City Manager’s declaration of a local emergency due to the extreme threat of wildfire in the region.
