City employees will play a friendly hockey game on October 23 at Howelsen Ice Arena, with free admission and optional donations benefiting the Routt First Responders Foundation.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado-October 8, 2026- City employees are trading their day jobs for hockey sticks when teams from across the City of Steamboat Springs face off Friday, Oct. 23, at Howelsen Ice Arena.

“We spend our days working together, so it’s only fitting that we settle a few things on the ice,” said Lt. Devon Borvansky of Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue. “It’s all in good fun, and having the community come out, cheer us on and support the Routt First Responders Foundation makes it even better.”

Employees from across the organization will take to the ice for an evening of friendly rivalry, bragging rights and community fun. Municipal Madness gives city employees a chance to step away from their regular roles, have some fun together and connect with the community in a different setting — all while supporting a local organization that helps first responders and their families.

The community is invited to watch the friendly — and surely competitive — matchup during Municipal Madness: City Employees. One Rink. One Winner. The game runs from 6:30 to 8 pm at Howelsen Ice Arena, 285 Howelsen Parkway. Fans can expect giveaways and raffle drawings throughout the game, with plenty of opportunities to cheer on their favorite city employees.

Admission is free, with optional donations benefiting the Routt First Responders Foundation, which supports local first responders and their families.
