Durango, CO: **City Manager José Madrigal has issued an emergency disaster declaration for the City of Durango in response to ongoing flash flooding and flood-related impacts affecting the community and surrounding areas.
Recent flooding has created hazardous conditions and poses potential risks to public safety and property. The declaration follows flood warnings issued by the National Weather Service and recognizes that flood conditions may continue in the coming days.
The declaration provides the city with the authority and flexibility to quickly access and spend available resources, if needed, to respond to emergency conditions, protect public safety, and support recovery efforts related to flooding.
The emergency declaration is authorized under city code and Colorado state law and is effective immediately. The declaration may not remain in effect for more than seven days unless extended by the Durango City Council.
City officials will continue to monitor conditions and coordinate response efforts as needed. Residents are encouraged to avoid flooded areas, use caution when traveling, and stay informed through official emergency communication channels like LPC Alerts, the La Plata County Website, and the City of Durango Newsflash.
