GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — At approximately 10:45 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire on the 890 block of Quail Run Drive. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported an active fire and a large column of black smoke visible from the area.
The first arriving crews initiated an aggressive interior attack through the front entrance but encountered intense heat and heavy fire conditions. Due to the volume of fire, incident command transitioned operations to a defensive strategy focused on preventing the fire from spreading to nearby trees and neighboring homes. Firefighters successfully contained the fire to the property of origin.
As crews operated in extreme summer temperatures, additional drinking water and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air cylinders were requested. The Grand Junction Fire Department Logistics Team quickly delivered the needed resources, allowing suppression operations to continue without interruption.
The fire was brought under control shortly after noon. Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 1:30 p.m., extinguishing hot spots and ensuring the fire would not rekindle. Grand Junction Fire Department investigators continue to examine the scene to determine the fire's origin and cause.
No injuries were reported.

The Grand Junction Fire Department urges residents to use extra caution during the current period of hot, dry, and windy weather. These conditions can dramatically increase fire danger and allow even small fires to spread quickly.
Residents are encouraged to:
Properly extinguish and safely dispose of smoking materials.
Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
Use caution when operating equipment that may generate sparks.
Ensure trailer safety chains are properly secured and do not drag on the roadway, where they can create sparks and ignite roadside vegetation.
