The Surface Creek Trail is a 1.1-mile moderate hike in Delta, Colorado, near Cedaredge on the Western Slope. The trail follows Surface Creek as it descends into the valley, offering a relatively short and straightforward route. It features maintained gravel surfaces and is lined with trees and flowering shrubs, providing shade from summer heat. Elevation ranges around 4,961 to 6,157 feet. Hikers typically complete the out-and-back journey in about one hour or 37 minutes, with the return trip adding intensity due to the ascent. Street parking is available near the trailhead, though there are no official lots. The trail is accessible year-round and allows leashed dogs. Wildlife sightings, including deer and various bird species, are common. A unique feature is a book added by the local library, which appears page by page along the trail and is updated monthly during summer. The route can be combined with Old Goat Road to create a longer 10+ mile out-and-back hike.
